We work with real materials –preferably natural stone, wood, metal and plants. Water can also be included on request.
The natural stone is the foundation, the lasting structure of the garden. It is complemented by the plants, which form the living element of the garden, connecting it with the surrounding landscape.
We see construction as a creative process
A project can never be one hundred percent planned in advance. This gives us the flexibility to respond to any situations that arise. The project progresses step-by-step, as it shifts from planning to implementation.

Using rocks to stabilise a slope – the partnership between man and machine
Nearly every member of the GartenLandschaft team has a hands-on role in the construction of our projects. When it comes to building dry stone walls, modelling the surfaces, planting and pruning we place great emphasis on manual labour. But when it comes to using rocks to secure slopes or building stone structures on more even terrain, we need to bring in big equipment. This is where we call on long-standing team member Moritz Klebeck. When it comes to using an excavator to place stones, he and Peter Berg work together seamlessly. Trust and mutual understanding are vital when man and machine work so closely together.
Peter Berg and setting stone in the garden
A wide variety of stones, some weighing up to 10 tonnes, are used to stabilise a slope. They form steps, paths and trails through the garden and can even become pieces of furniture, such as seats and loungers, or even sculptures.

Selecting plants and trees
Knowing how to bring together the right combination of plants is another important skill Peter Berg and his partners share. A particularly effective way of achieving a unique garden design comes from choosing the right blend of woody plants, perennials and grasses.
Our approach is to choose plants that are as disease resistant as possible, suitable for the climate, grow slowly and are long-lasting. We are experts at finding the right type and variety and planting them in just the right spot. Working with reliable nurseries, Peter Berg personally selects and reserves trees so that he always has a ready supply of excellent specimens. Every member of the team is trained and educated by Peter Berg and Susanne Förster so they too possess the skills and knowledge required to achieve technically perfect planting.
Peter Berg and planting on a hillside garden
A garden on a slope is always a special challenge. That’s why Peter Berg uses his own hillside garden to experiment and as a source of inspiration and strength. Using his own garden, Peter Berg talks through the different planting options.
