Water – the element that connects the architecture and garden

Two minimalist water basins create an ideal connection between the architecture and garden. The clever use of raised beds and planting meant the view of the neighbour’s property from the living and dining area was largely obscured. A harmonious interplay between the plants and water was achieved by using natural stone in the Japanese style. A green ribbon of skilfully combined grasses, perennials and trees leads to the back of the garden.

The garden is visible from every part of the ground floor. The view from the bathroom’s floor-to-ceiling windows looks out onto a green oasis in which woody plants and perennials are not separated from one another but interwoven. In spring 2024, the planting of the final tree was filmed by German news channel n-tv. The report shared great insights about the construction process and GartenLandschaft Berg’s principles of garden design. Exquisite plants highlight the high quality, modern architecture. The terrace and entrance were built using sawn basalt lava.

Designing small gardens – the challenges posed by new housing developments

To create a garden sanctuary in a built-up area it is essential to provide some protection from the immediate neighbours and the street. By making the best possible use of the available space, various recreation areas can be created in a small space. A small private oasis can be created using screening trees and by playing with the height of plant boxes and rocks.

Garden design with large stones

Peace and harmony need to be designed: n-tv presenter Lisa Vieth watched Peter and Daniel Berg at work. Her programme “Garden design with large stones” shows, among other things, the construction of the private garden near Koblenz.
