Design of contracts – a front garden in Alsace

“This has to be livelier” was Peter Berg’s first impression when called to this garden. A long, straight driveway flanked by a lawn, a beautiful linden and a few other trees – this front garden in Alsace didn’t have much more to offer. It was not a blank canvas, but there was plenty of opportunity to redesign it. The linden was allowed to stay, while the lawn gave way to a landscape of grasses, shrubs and natural stone. A row of neatly trimmed hornbeams shields the driveway from the neighbours. Free-standing rock structures planted with perennials help transition away from the formal areas in front of the house.

Front garden design that captures the changing seasons

In spring and summer, the scene is dominated by the white and blue flowering perennials; in autumn, red and brown tones and the light fronds of the miscanthus take centre stage. The shrubs turn a deep red colour, and in winter comes yellow in the form of witch hazel flowers. The result is a front garden that you will enjoy spending time in – and which looks different in every season.

Jardin d’Alsace, Garden redesign

“It was through friends that the client learned about and came to appreciate my work. Thanks to this trust, we had a free hand in designing the front garden. They received a completely new front garden in a record time of twelve construction days.”
