Garden on a slope – SWR wants to know exactly what’s going on

We are delighted that SWR presented Peter Berg’s fascinating hillside garden in its weather report on 15 May 2012. This wonderful report gave a wide audience the opportunity to get to know the special features of this extraordinary garden and to gain valuable insights into the design and care of a hillside garden.

Peter Berg has turned an old vineyard into a breathtaking hillside garden that not only impresses aesthetically, but also defies the challenges of the climate. The garden designer shows how to beat the ice saints and cold nights.

Thanks to the special location in a wine-growing region and the clever use of the existing stone structures, this garden offers ideal conditions for plants that like it warm. The stone walls store the heat, creating a microclimate that provides protection even on colder nights. Peter Berg favours native plants and a wealth of knowledge about combinations of perennials and grasses.
