Fire, the winter element in our natural gardens. Whether it is a fire bowl or a fixed fireplace in natural stone, there is a place to linger in our gardens even in winter. A play of light and moving flames adds a special atmosphere to our timeless garden design.

At the same time, winter brings with it important tasks. Depending on the type of tree and its growth target, it may need to be pruned. It is also the most important time for planting trees and shrubs. Unlike container trees, which are planted all year round, we can transplant specimen trees of impressive size in winter. As soon as the tree world goes dormant, our work begins.

In our shop you will find the latest book by Peter Berg Bergstyle – inspired by Pückler.

An excursion into the parks of the “green prince” and the application of his design principles in private gardens. A particular theme is the use of solitary trees and shrubs as space-creating design elements.

For many garden lovers, autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year. In Japan, too, autumn is one of the most popular times to visit, alongside the cherry blossom season. The ‘Kōyō’ (the sight of autumn leaves) is celebrated in the garden and landscape.

When designing the parks, Prince Pückler placed particular emphasis on integrating the colours and character of the seasons into his landscapes. Trees with interesting autumn colours were placed in special locations in the park, creating a unique effect.

Autumn colour also plays an important role in the design of our gardens and the selection of our trees and shrubs. Individual trees and shrubs become the protagonists of the garden. Red colouring combined with shades of yellow and brown against a backdrop of green grasses develops into a golden yellow landscape in which the extravagant tree structures become increasingly visible.

In our park at the Augustinum, a very special tree is shining in unique splendour this season: the amber tree (Liquidambar styraciflua). At first, its leaves begin to turn a soft yellow, but as the months go by, the colour intensifies until it turns a bright red to pink.

We have been nominated for this year’s SGD Award in the “International Residential Landscape & Garden” category with our project “Set in Stone”. The award ceremony will take place in London on February 7th, 2025.

The SGD Award, presented by the “Society of Garden Designers”, took place for the first time in 2012. Projects by Christopher Bradley-Hole, Robert Myers and Dan Pearson are among the winners of the previous awards ceremonies. The SGD (Society of Garden Designers) is the only professional association for garden designers, and our many national and international Members represent the very best of the industry. Since 1981, we have been championing excellence in garden design, and supporting our Members to train, work, develop and continually maintain the highest standards.

After the flood in 2021, it was time to get to work. The aim was not just to rebuild the flooded garden, but to create something better straight away. In the dry stone wall workshop, what was learnt in theory was applied directly in practice with a great deal of dedication and commitment.

Here you can find another project that we renovated in the Ahr valley after the flood

Garden redesign in the SWR Handwerkskunst seriesA garden in Bad Bodendorf is redesigned from scratch and transformed into a blooming oasis by Peter Berg – with dry stone walls and customised planting. The documentary from the SWR Handwerkskunst series follows the entire process from planning to the finished feel-good garden.

‘A place should be created that makes life worth living again for people after the flood.’ This was the guiding principle that Peter Berg and his team defined for the redesign of the park.

In this video, we take you on a journey through the creation of the park with its marvellous natural pond, unique specimen trees and protective stone structures. In a very short project time, a garden landscape was created that the residents of the Augustinum can enjoy as a valuable part of their lives.

From our point of view, the programme is really worth watching, there is currently no more informative format on the public broadcasters. We are always happy to receive feedback. Some people have already expressed an interest in taking part in a workshop on pruning, as shown in the programme.

You can view many more unique examples of our work in the ‘Projects’ section of our website.

Our 3rd dry stone walling workshop took place in summer 2019 with the aim of teaching and preserving this ancient craft.

Whether beginner or advanced, everyone had the opportunity to expand their skills and share their expertise with the other participants. We would especially like to thank Steven Altigs, who captured some wonderful impressions of this workshop and created this video.

We already have something very special planned for 2020. Our 4th dry stone walling workshop will be better than any holiday, with lots of know-how, good food and fellowship – so stay tuned!
